WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Secretary of State John Kerry will elaborate on 2016 US foreign policy priorities on Wednesday following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, the Department of State announced in a press release.
“Kerry will deliver remarks on the United States foreign policy agenda for 2016 at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, at the National Defense University, in Washington, DC,” the release said. “The Secretary’s remarks will highlight themes outlined by President Obama in his State of the Union Address the night before.”
Obama will deliver his final State of the Union speech on Tuesday evening at the US Capitol, addressing the remaining top priorities for his last year in office.
In his speech, Obama is expected to defend executive actions he can take without Congress, including closing the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, enacting tougher gun safety regulations and continuing to normalize US-Cuba relations.
