Suspended Venezuelan Lawmakers Sworn in Cementing Parliamentary Majority
MEXICO (Sputnik) — "We declare the absolute nullity of the National Assembly’s decisions which have been or will be taken until these lawmaker continue to be part of the deputies," the Venezuelan Supreme Court said Monday in a statement published on its website.

In late December, three lawmakers in the state of Amazonas began their work in the new parliament despite the Supreme Court’s ruling over an investigation into electoral irregularities in Venezuela.

Venezuela’s new opposition-controlled parliament is currently headed by Henry Ramos Allup, leader of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), which had for the first time in 17 years gained a parliamentary majority in elections held on December 6, 2015, gaining a total two-thirds of seats in the National Assembly.
