WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Military Times quoted Kelly as saying that Havana accepted an invitation to send its delegation to the conference which will be co-hosted by the United States in Jamaica.

Cuban’s participation in the conference will mark another positive step in Washington-Havana normalization of relations.

The conference focuses on cooperation between the nations to combat such crimes as drug trafficking, and smuggling of people and arms.

In December 2014, President Barack Obama announced the United States would begin normalizing relations with Cuba. The two countries reopened embassies in their respective capitals in July, after more than 50 years of non-engagement and hostilities.
