GENEVA (Sputnik) – Over 18,800 migrants arrived in Europe using sea routes in the first 11 days of 2016, figures released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) showed on Tuesday.
"18,882 migrants incl.refugees have arrived by sea to Europe 56 dead/missing," IOM wrote on its official Twitter account.

Migrant arrivals to Europe using the dangerous maritime route averaged over 1,700 a day, the migration watchdog stated.
The European Union is currently struggling to cope with a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people fleeing conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa in search of safety and refuge in the bloc.
