MADRID (Sputnik) — According to EFE news agency, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Spain Commander Lt. Gen. Rafael Comas received on Tuesday a combat flag from Lt. Gen. Volker Halbauer, who headed the NATO rapid response corps in 2015.
At the September 2014 NATO summit in Wales, bloc members agreed to establish the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, dubbed "Spearhead," to have a deployable force available to promptly respond to threats on the Alliance’s southern and eastern borders.
The force includes some 5,000 troops, according to NATO.
