NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has taken a double-digit lead over former State Secretary Hillary Clinton in the US state of New Hampshire, a new poll revealed on Tuesday.
"Currently, Sanders holds a 53 percent to 39 percent lead over Clinton in the Granite State’s first-in-the-nation primary," the Monmouth University poll stated.
In November, Clinton enjoyed 48 percent of support compared to Sanders’ 45 percent, according to a survey by Monmouth University.
"New Hampshire Democratic preferences are getting baked in, with Sanders gaining the upper hand," Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray said.
New Hampshire is the first US state to hold primary elections for Republican and Democrat presidential candidates. Its outcome plays a major role in determining the selection of presidential candidates from the two major political parties in the United States.
Monmouth University surveyed 413 likely New Hampshire Democratic voters on January 7-10.
