"There is support for criminal justice reform on both sides," Booker said on Tuesday when asked if there are any issues the Congress will work with Obama on in his final year.
Booker added he is "hopeful" there can be legislative action on criminal justice reform "in the next few months."
On Tuesday evening, Obama will give his final State of the Union address and is expected to address inequalities in the US justice system. In November 2015, Obama took a series of executive actions to reduce recidivism and provide educational and employment opportunities to former convicts.
House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan announced on Tuesday that he sees "a real way forward" on legislation to reform the criminal justice system.
Booker has led bipartisan efforts in the Senate to expunge non-violent criminal sentences from convicts records, and focus on rehabilitation of convicted criminals, and restore some federal rights to some drug offenders.
