WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The bill passed in a vote of 418 to 2 on Tuesday, and was described by bill sponsor Congressman Ed Royce as "the most comprehensive North Korean sanctions legislation to come before [the House of Representatives]."
The sanctions bill will use targeted financial and economic pressure to further isolate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as well as top officials in his regime. It will block the sanctioned individuals from accessing foreign assets and hard currency.
On January 6, North Korea announced they had carried out a nuclear weapons test in violation of international norms and existing international sanctions.
