MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The avalanche swept a group of 10 schoolchildren from Lyon and their teacher who skied in southeastern France, killing two students. A Ukrainian skier was also found dead.
"I extend my sincerest condolences to the relatives of the victims of the avalanche in Deux Alpes and assure them of the solidarity of the entire Nation," Hollande was cited in an official Twitter post.
France’s Prime Minister Manuel Valls expressed "great sadness" at the news of the casualties. "All our thoughts go to the victims and those fighting for their life," he said.
According to Le Dauphine newspaper, all students in the school group have been accounted for. The teacher has been gravely injured. He was reportedly unconscious when he was taken to the University Hospital Centre in Grenoble.
