CHISINAU (Sputnik) — Later in the day, the Democratic Party, which recently secured the parliamentary majority required to ensure approval of a new Cabinet, is due to announce its candidate for prime minister.
According to police estimates, some 30,000 people are expected to arrive in Chisinau to participate in the rallies.
A protest against the appointment of a candidate proposed by the Democratic Party is underway, as well as a rally in support of the candidacy.
On December, 21, 2015, Moldova's President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree appointing Ion Sturza as the country's prime minister but on January 4 the country's parliament failed to approve the Sturza government.
