Heavy snowfall began in Moscow late afternoon on Tuesday. In the next two days, Moscow is expected to see up to 25 centimeters of snow.

The snowfall came amid rising temperatures, with wind gusts reaching speeds of 15-18 meters per second.

Public Services workers began cleaning the city streets, escorted by traffic police units. More than 15,000 pieces of snow removing equipment were involved.

Moscow public services will continue cleaning the streets day and night, including roadways, sidewalks, bus stations and areas near subway stations.

The snowfall led to the cancellation of dozens of flights at the city airports.

The Moscow subway system was bracing itself for an increased number of passengers as on this day many car owners took public transport.

On Tuesday, Moscow saw 13 millimeters of precipitation, which accounted for 30 percent of the monthly norm.
