MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Homan Square was first brought into the spotlight in February 2015, when media reported the police used the facility to interrogate alleged crime suspects.
According to The Guardian newspaper, the board of commissioners passed on Wednesday a resolution to make an investigation into Chicago's police activities "to look into allegations of civil and human rights violations."
In March, representatives of the board had already delivered a request for the DoJ to investigate police activities in the city. Homan Square was not included in initial department's investigation, however, their importance was recognized by US officials.
The Chicago Police Department has denied involvement or knowledge of abuse claims at the Homan Square black site, claiming that the facility is a special unit headquarters.
