Turkish officials have blamed the attack on Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants. A special operation against the group is being conducted in the area of the attack.
Violence in Turkey escalated in mid-2015, when the Turkish government launched a military campaign against the PKK, which is outlawed in the country.
