NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The sentencing of alleged Russian national Vladimir Drinkman, who pleaded guilty to his role in the largest data hack scheme ever prosecuted in the United States, has been rescheduled for July 14, a spokesperson for the US District Court of New Jersey told Sputnik on Thursday.
"Sentencing has been rescheduled for July 14, 2016," the spokesperson said. The original scheduling date was set for January 15.
Drinkman, 34, together with four other co-conspirers, allegedly stole data from the networks of corporate victims, retailers and other institutions and sold it on online forums causing hundreds of millions of dollars in loses, according to court documents.
The hacked computer networks included those of NASDAQ, Dow Jones, JetBlue, 7-Eleven as well as JCPenny.
Drinkman pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit unauthorized access of protected computers and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He was arrested in the Netherlands in 2012 and extradited to the United States in February.
Russia has expressed concern over the Netherlands authorities’ decision to extradite Drinkman to the United States, despite arguments in favor of his primary extradition to Russia in compliance with the 1999 US-Russia treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
