MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Prior to the convoy, whose movement was reported by the BBC, a UN convoy delivered humanitarian aid products to the residents of Madaya on Tuesday. The humanitarian convoy delivered food, detergents, medicine and plastic sheets to cover broken windows from shelling, among other necessary aid for civilians, according to the United Nations.
According to the UN data, people have been dying of starvation in Madaya, where about 40,000 people are trapped.
Last week, the United Nations said it was preparing to deliver humanitarian assistance after Damascus had approved the organization’s access to three Syrian cities — Madaya, Foah and Kafraya.
On Sunday, an informed source told Sputnik that Damascus and armed opposition groups operating in Syria had reached a consensus on allowing deliveries of humanitarian aid to the cities.
