WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Two civilians in Iraq and six other in Syria were killed as result of airstrikes carried out by the US-led coalition, the release said.
"On April 12, 2015, near al Huwayjah, Iraq, during a strike on an ISIL [Daesh] tactical unit, it was assessed that two unidentified civilians were killed," the release stated.
Moreover, US airstrikes injured two civilians near Iraq’s Haditha on June 29, the Central Command added.
"In all of the cases released today, assessments determined that although the air strikes complied with the law of armed conflict and all appropriate precautions were taken, civilian casualties unfortunately did occur," CENTCOM stated.
The US-led coalition of some 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014 — albeit without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
