MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The first shipment of French arms reached Lebanon in April 2015. The second delivery in frames of a $3-billion deal will begin in April 2016, the As Safir newspaper reported, citing an informed French source.
The last shipment of weaponry to Lebanon is set to be made in 2022-2023.
Under the agreement financed by Saudi Arabia, France will provide Lebanon with 250 combat and transport vehicles, as well as seven Cougar helicopters and three Corvette warships.
The deal is aimed at enhancing defensive capabilities of Lebanon to fight terrorists, as many extremist groups are active in the country, including the Hezbollah militant group, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the US government and some European nations.
