MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 27 people were killed when some 15 al-Qaeda extremists took over 120 hostages in a hotel and a cafe frequented by westerners.
"The European Union offers its sincere condolences to the victims, their families and the people of Burkina Faso. This terrorist act comes as the people of Burkina Faso clearly expressed their determination to live in peace and stability by their peaceful vote last November," Mogherini said in a statement.
The EU foreign policy chief added that Brussels was united with Burkina Faso and other Sahel countries in the fight against terrorism, as well as in defending the values of peace, freedom and diversity.
