MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Representatives of the Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell company and the French Total corporation are expected to discuss the boosting of bilateral ties with Iran's National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) on Sunday, Iran's Mehr news agency reported.
"Relevant negotiations with all world’s major oil companies have begun," NITC Managing Director Ali Akbar Safaei said as quoted by the news outlet. Iranian oil tankers are now set to return to the European energy market, he added.
The visit comes ahead of the expected lifting of anti-Iran international sanctions, which have prohibited the country from selling its energy products on international markets.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is anticipated to report Saturday on Iran's compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). According to the JCPOA, all UN Security Council, as well as US and EU sanctions are set to be partly lifted on the implementation day.
The lifting of anti-Iran sanctions became possible after Iran had reached a deal on its nuclear program with the P5+1 group of international mediators on July 14, 2015. The deal entailed Iran agreeing to ensure the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
