MOSCOW (Sputnik) – At least 11 people were killed and 13 injured in a suicide bombing at a provincial council member’s guest house in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, local media reported Sunday.
"At least 11 civilians were killed and 13 others wounded in a suicide attack in Jalalabad city," the Pajhwok news service tweeted minutes after saying nine people were killed.
An explosive device that was previously said to kill two and injure 15 was detonated inside Obaidullah Shinwari’s residence, Afghanistan’s TOLOnews broadcaster cited governor spokesman Attaullah Khoghyani as saying.
Shinwari’s father, tribal elder Malek Osman, was among those injured.
Security forces have sealed off the area and all surviving victims were hospitalized, the network reports.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet, but Taliban fighters are known to have stepped up their insurgency despite a usual lull in violence in the winter.
