ANKARA (Sputnik) – According to the Turkish minister, Ankara and London have "ideal cooperation."
"I hope that this year, with support of the United Kingdom as a guarantor state, the resolution of the Cyprus problem will be reached," Davutoglu said before his meeting with UK Prime Minister David Cameron, as quoted by the Anadolu news agency.
Cyprus has been partitioned since 1974, when Turkish troops occupied its northern part and proclaimed the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) nearly a decade later. Only Turkey recognizes the TRNC, also known as Northern Cyprus.
Greece, Turkey and the United Kingdom have been guarantors of Cyprus' independence since 1960.
