MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Radio-Technical Troops (RTT) of the Russian Aerospace Forces will be re-equipped with 80 percent of modern radar systems before 2020, the Defense Ministry said Monday.
"By 2020, RTT are to undergo a general re-equipment with advanced radar-location systems. The RTT regiments will operate some 80 percent of modern radar systems…," the statement issued by the ministry reads.
The detection range of the new systems is expected to reach about 1,120 miles lengthwise and over 745 miles in height.
Russia is currently carrying out a large-scale rearmament program, announced in 2010, to achieve a 70-percent modernization of its military hardware by 2020.
