MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin named Tuesday the European Jewish Congress as an ally of Russia in the fight against anti-Semitism, and thanked the organization in preventing glorification of Nazi ideology.
"We consider your organization as a natural ally of Russia in the fight against xenophobia, anti-Semitism, against expression of any radical views, and it is one of the most representative European non-governmental organizations," the Russian leader said at a meeting with the envoys of the organization.
Russia also considers the organization "as our direct allies in preserving the memory of World War II, of the consequences of this tragedy of the human scale, of Holocaust," Putin added.
The European Jewish Congress was founded in 1986 and is based in Paris, and also has offices in other European cities. The organization works with the European Union, national governments and the Council of Europe to protect interests of communities affiliated with it.
