TOKYO (Sputnik) – The warnings issued to residents of Nemuro are linked to the growing danger of tall waves flooding houses and putting some 4,000 families at risk, according to Kyodo News.
Power lines were damaged by falling trees, while three airlines canceled around 90 domestic flights.
The weather in Tokyo has cleared, but temperatures remain cold with strong wind gusts.
Bad weather is forecast to continue across northern Japan on Wednesday, threatening disruptions to transport links.
