MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Palestine calls on the international community to convene a multilateral conference on the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the country's Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal said Tuesday.
"Loosing hope for the peaceful regulation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Palestine introduces the idea of creating an international conference to find resolutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," the ambassador said at a press conference in Moscow.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas could visit Russia in March, according to Abdel Hafiz Nofal.
"He usually visits twice a year. We hope this will take place in March. Moreover, he intends to invite President Putin to Palestine," Nofal said.
Also Nofal stated that the first session of the Russian-Palestinian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation is likely to take place in the Palestinian city of Ramallah in early March.
"We would like to host it [the commission's session] on the territory of Palestine. We spoke yesterday with the [Russian] labor minister, who agreed to lead a delegation of 20-25 people. It is due to take place in Ramallah, likely during the first week of March," the ambassador said.
According to the Palestinian diplomat, the sides may discuss agriculture, healthcare, IT, as well as bilateral trade issues.
The ambassador expressed hope that the first session of the commission had the potential to assist the development of relations between Palestine and Russia.
The decades-long conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis has recently increased in intensity, with dozens of mutual attacks having taken place since early September, taking the lives of over 100 people, mostly Palestinians.
