MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, media reports suggested that the Moroccan law enforcement had detained a Belgian citizen, but his name was not announced.
According to the BFMTV channel, the man was identified as Gelel Attar, 26. Attar used to live in Brussels before traveling to Syria in 2013. The man is likely to have ties to one of the organizers of the Paris attacks.
On November 13, extremists carried out a series of coordinated attacks at various locations in the French capital, killing 130 people and injuring over 350 others. Many of the attack's perpetrators have been found to be Belgian residents.
The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks. The organization is outlawed in many countries, including Russia.
