MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia's oceanographic research ship, the Admiral Vladimirsky, has reached Antarctica where it will carry out hydrographic research, a spokesman for the Russian Navy said Tuesday.
"The General Staff of the Navy received a report from the oceanographic research ship Admiral Vladimirsky," Сapt. 1st Rank Igor Dygalo said.
He added that the crew of the ship had successfully completed the first part of the Antarctic expedition and had arrived in the area to be researched in the Lazarev Sea.
During the expedition, the Admiral Vladimirsky is expected to sail over 30,000 nautical miles and is due to return to Russia’s Kronstadt port near St. Petersburg in April.
