WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Department of Justice plans to support police departments where officers have fell victim to attacks and hold the perpetrators accountable, US Attorney General Loretta Lynch said in a statement on Tuesday.
"I am appalled and deeply saddened by the recent shooting attacks against law enforcement officers in Danville, Ohio and Holladay, Utah, in addition to an earlier ambush in Philadelphia," Lynch stated. "We stand ready to offer any and all appropriate resources to help hold accountable those who threaten our communities, attack our neighbors and seek to harm the peacekeepers within our nation."
According to the non-profit group Officer Down Memorial Page, some 129 police officer were killed in the line of duty in the United States in 2015. The highest rates of police deaths were recorded in the states of Texas, New York, Louisiana and Georgia.
