Daily Pakistan reported that at least four Bacha Khan University security guards and a policeman have also been killed.
The Pakistani wing of the Taliban Islamic movement, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for Wednesday attack on the country's Bacha Khan University in the northern town of Charsadda, local media reported.
At least two explosions were heard inside the university after a group of gunmen entered it early on Wednesday, officials said, as the Pakistani Army’s rapid response team and police exchanged fire with the gunmen.
Some 3,000 students and 600 guests of a poetic competition were in the building at the moment of attack.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, who is currently at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland's Davos, condemned the attack and vowed to eliminate terrorism as soon as possible.
