At least 21 people were killed and dozens injured in gun and explosives attack in Bacha Khan University in Pakistani Khyber Pakhtunkha’s Charsadda town, police said, adding ths security forces had ended the opreation against gunmen.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) At least 50 people have been injured in a shootout in a northern Pakistan university, and police have killed at least two of the four attackers, local media reported Wednesday.

According to Indian Express, several of the injured are in critical condition. At least 21 people were killed.

​Daily Pakistan reported that at least four Bacha Khan University security guards and a policeman have also been killed.

The Pakistani wing of the Taliban Islamic movement, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for Wednesday attack on the country's Bacha Khan University in the northern town of Charsadda, local media reported.

At least two explosions were heard inside the university after a group of gunmen entered it early on Wednesday, officials said, as the Pakistani Army’s rapid response team and police exchanged fire with the gunmen.

Some 3,000 students and 600 guests of a poetic competition were in the building at the moment of attack.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, who is currently at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland's Davos, condemned the attack and vowed to eliminate terrorism as soon as possible.
