MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian ruble hit a historical low since December 2014, trading at 80.16 rubles to the dollar on the heels of falling Brent oil prices, according to statistics on the foreign exchange market Wednesday.
Euro exchange rates are currently trading at 87.53 rubles, weakening by 1.81 rubles for the day.
The previous “ruble record” was set on December 16, 2014, when the Russian currency was trading at 80.10 rubles to the dollar.
January futures on Brent oil fell on Wednesday by 2.21 percent, trading at $28.12 per barrel.
