“We are in constant dialogue. We are in constant dialogue with the German Finance Ministry and through the German Finance Ministry with Russia,” Jaresko said on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland.
She said the last time she had met with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov was in Lima, Peru, at the G-20 in October of last year, but the ministers only exchanged their positions on Ukraine’s arrears.
“We are continuing dialogue on future meetings. Unfortunately, the Russian delegation was unable to meet here [in Davos], but we are continuing [dialogue],” she added.
Ukraine owes Russia $3 billion in Eurobonds. The debt was secured by the government of then-President Viktor Yanukovych in late 2013. Moscow has repeatedly stated that Kiev's inability to pay back the debt by December 20 would mean a default.
Russian Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak warned Kiev on Monday that Moscow would file a lawsuit against Ukraine for failing to pay back the loan.
On Wednesday, the International Monetary Fund board recognized Kiev’s outstanding $3-billion debt to Moscow as sovereign.
