CENTCOM: US-Led Coalition Launches 24 Anti-Daesh Airstrikes in Iraq, Syria
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The US-led coalition launched 14 airstrikes against Daesh terrorists in Iraq, while no coalition airstrikes were carried out in Syria, the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Wednesday.

“In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 14 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets,” the CJTF-OIR said.

Tuesday’s airstrikes in Iraq were carries out near six locations, including Mosul, Ramadi and Sinjar, and destroyed multiple Daesh fighting positions, command and control nodes, two vehicles, two assembly areas and one building.

Near Ramadi, the airstrikes destroyed multiple targets, including an Daesh mortar system, three Daesh fighting positions, a building, a tunnel entrance, as well as two petroleum oil and lubricant trucks, the release said.

Since 2014, the US-led coalition of some 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against the Daesh first in Iraq and later Syria — albeit without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.

The Islamic State, also known by its Arabic acronym Daesh, is a terrorist organization prohibited in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
