CAIRO (Sputnik) — The attack on the checkpoint in the North Sinai capital of Arish was conducted overnight, killing three police officers, an Interior Ministry sergeant and a soldier, the Egyptian al-Yaum al-Sabea newspaper said, citing special forces sources. At least 10 people sustained gunshot injuries.
Egypt has been conducting anti-terrorist operations in North Sinai for the last two years, particularly against Wilayat Sinai, a Daesh-affiliated militant group. Daesh itself is outlawed in a number of countries worldwide, including Russia and the United States.
