ATHENS (Sputnik) — Tsipras and Lagarde met earlier in the day at the World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss the implementation of the Greek bailout program.
"They agreed that neither side wanted delays. They also agreed that there would be a direct link between the Greek government and the IMF," the statement reads.
The IMF is one of Greece's main international lenders, alongside the European Central Bank and some eurozone states. Athens is struggling to restructure its multibillion debt.
Earlier this week, Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos said that the IMF's participation in the Greek bailout was "planned," adding that Athens was sticking to this commitment. Previously, Tsipras argued that the IMF was no longer needed.
