Hmeymim Base in Syria Opens Doors for International Journalists
12:17 GMT 21.01.2016 (Updated: 19:26 GMT 19.10.2022) Nearly 60 international journalists visited Hmeymim airbase in Latakia, Wednesday, for an opportunity to get an inner look at the daily life of Russian personnel involved in the fight against Daesh.
According to Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov the journalists also witnessed the loading of humanitarian aid cargo bound for Syrian settlements besieged by militants.
The Hmeymim base is the centerpiece of the Russian military operation in Syria, which started on September 30, 2015, at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
