MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Osama Majdoub. The diplomats discussed the current situation on the Middle East and North Africa.
"The diplomats emphasized the growth of terrorist threat and radicalism and stressed the importance of creation of a broad anti-terrorist front, based on the international law and provisions of the UN Charter," the ministerial statement said.
According to the ministry, the Syrian crisis was high on the agenda of the meeting. The sides confirmed the common position that the Syrian crisis can be settled only through the UN-brokered inter-Syrian dialogue with the assistance from the International Syria Support Group (ISSG).
Libyan settlement issues and the situation at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were also on the agenda of the consultations, according to the statement.
Following the consultations, Moscow and Cairo agreed to continue policy coordination on Middle East and Africa.
