WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Moscow is considering a response to the decision by the United States to close five out of six honorary consulates of the Russian Federation in the United States, Russian Embassy spokesman Yuri Melnik told Sputnik on Friday.
"We are now looking at what can be done further in terms of the practical response," Melnik stated.
When asked to elaborate on possible response, Melnik did not specify what it may be.
Russia was officially informed of the United States’ decision to withdraw the accreditation of five out of six honorary consuls of the Russian Federation in the United States.
"We received an official notification from the American side about the closure of five out of six honorary consulates. To be more exact, five out of six honorary consuls lost their status," Melnik said.
The spokesperson added that only the Russian honorary consulate in the US state of Colorado maintains its status.
