South Korea's Red Cross Suspends Projects With North After Nuke Test
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The six-party talks on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula initially included South and North Korea, Russia, the United States, China and Japan. The talks were held between 2003 and 2009, before Pyongyang's withdrawal.

"We should find various and creative approaches, including attempting to hold five-way talks excluding North Korea," Park told officials in a meeting on North Korea, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.

The president stressed that China's participation was key to exert influence on North Korea for the country to change its course. Park also called for a joint effort to adopt a UN Security Council resolution that would envisage effective sanctions against Pyongyang.

North Korea declared itself a nuclear power in 2005 and conducted nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013, having earlier withdrawn from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that it ratified in 1985. On January 6, Pyongyang said it had successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test which triggered a wave of condemnation from the international community.
