MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) cited a "relevant institution" that identified the detained US national as Otto Frederick Warmbier, a student from the University of Virginia.
He was reportedly arrested while committing the act, although the KCNA agency was vague about what exactly the act was.
The student was accused of entering the country "under the guise of tourist for the purpose of bringing down the foundation of its single-minded unity at the tacit connivance of the U.S. government and under its manipulation."
An investigation has been opened into the alleged crime, according to the report.
This comes a month after a North Korean court sentenced Canadian pastor Hyeon Soo Lim to life in prison for religious activities that were deemed to be subversive.
