US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has discussed future military cooperation and fight against terrorists with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Defense Department spokesman Peter Cook said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Carter and Ghani also discussed the ongoing US military mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan forces as they confront the Taliban and work closely with the United States to prevent terrorist groups from using Afghanistan as a safe haven, Cook added.

“In their meeting, Secretary Carter and President Ghani…discussed the current security situation, and the important role Afghanistan's new A-29 aircraft will play in the future,” the release said, issued on Friday.

President Barack Obama has ordered the US armed forces to maintain a significant military presence in Afghanistan beyond the end 2016.
