The highly computerized network of sophisticated anti-missiles protecting Moscow and the Central Industrial Region takes a fraction of a second to detect an incoming ICBM warhead and decide which of its many units is best suited to shoot it down, a Russian Aerospace Forces commander told Echo Moskvy Radio on Saturday.

“Anti-missile warfare is really very short… Our system needs a fraction of a second to determine the type of the incoming warhead and the precise missile it needs to destroy it. The whole system works in automatic mode, because the human brain is too slow to figure all this out so quickly,” Colonel Andrei Cheburin said.

He added that the Don-2N radar needs no targeting information to look for an incoming ICBM or nuclear warhead and destroy it.

The Russian Aerospace Forces are responsible for centralized control over combat air forces, air defense forces, and anti-missile defense network as well as the launch and control of the spacecraft of Russia’s orbit group and control over aerospace.
