BEIJING (Sputnik) – China and Iran have agreed to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on a two-day state visit to Tehran on Saturday.
"I and [Iranian President Hassan] Rouhani had very fruitful and honest talks both on mutual relations and exchanged views on issues of mutual interests. As Mr. Rouhani said, we have reached massive agreements," Xi said at a press conference in Tehran broadcast by Chinese and Iranian state media.
Beijing and Tehran have decided to deepen mutual ties to "strategic relations," Xi added.
The Chinese leader arrived in the Iranian capital late Friday after trips to Egypt and Saudi Arabia to discuss economic and political cooperation.
Rouhani said Chinese-Iranian bilateral trade was expected to increase by $600 billion over the next decade.
