MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Iran Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is in talks with US officials to resume direct flights between the two countries, the Iran Air carrier's chairman told local media on Sunday.
"ICAO is conducting talks on direct flights between Iran and the US," Farhad Parvaresh told the Mehr news service, expressing hope that daily flights to and from New York would resume in the near future.
The announcement came alongside Iran Transport Minister Abbas Akhoondi disclosing plans to purchase 114 Airbus planes from France by March, as part of a plan to revamp Iran's aging fleet.
Iran has emerged out of isolation last week after it was found in compliance with last summer's nuclear agreement, paving way to the termination of EU, UN and partial US sanctions.
