Fresh Look at 'Snowzilla' Storm That Has US East Coast Gridlocked

Storm Jonas has been truly deadly — it claimed the lives of at least 19 people across the United States and brought major cities to a halt. Due to the severe storm, also dubbed as Snowzilla, 11 states declared a state of emergency.

Jonas dumped 22.2 inches (0.5 meter) of snow in the US capital and 25 inches in New York's Central Park, which is the city's third highest snowfall since 1869.

Close to 85 million Americans were affected by the storm with around 200,000 being left without power. US aviation has also been hit hard with thousands of flights, including overseas flights, cancelled.

The pictures by Kelly, taken from space, show the entire US East Coast covered in a thick white layer, which looks like a mountain range. Pretty scary stuff straight out of the Hollywood flick Day After Tomorrow.

​There is nothing much that people can do about the storm, but to wait it out. On Sunday morning, Storm Jonas began to move away from the US Atlantic coast.

As bad as Storm Jonas was, some people kept their high spirit and made good-natured jokes trying to cheer up those affected by the storm. The Internet became flooded with pictures, videos and memes by folks passing the time while they waited for the weather to clear up.

One of the popular memes was the Jonas Brothers meme, when people linked the name of one of the three brothers with the storm.

​​This isn't the end of Jonas, however. UK meteorologists said the storm is heading across the Atlantic and might hit Wales, Scotland and the northern part of England next.
