The heavy offensive launched by the Syrian Army and its allies forced the terrorist groups to leave behind scores of dead and wounded militants in their rush to retreat from more territories in the north of Latakia province, Fars News reported on Saturday
"The Syrian army troops and the National Defense Forces (NDF) continued to advance against the militant groups in the mountainous regions of Latakia province and pushed them back from the villages of al-Qalabea and Beit Riha near the border with Turkey," the Army said in a statement.
Government forces established full control over the town of al-Amleik and several villages and heights near the border with Turkey, forcing the enemy to flee the battlefield to avoid more casualties.
"Over 150 militants were killed or wounded in the army attack, while more others fled the battlefields leaving behind their military equipment and weapons," the Army added.
Syrian government forces also defused scores of mines and other explosive devices planted by the terrorists and seized a large number of missiles, including US-made anti-tank TOW missiles.
Russian warplanes launched airstrikes against Daesh and other militant groups at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad on September 30.
Since the beginning of the air campaign, Russia’s Aerospace Forces have carried out thousands of sorties, destroying over 3,000 terrorist targets, according to the General Staff.
Hundreds of militants have been killed, and dozens of their command centers and arms depots have been destroyed.
