BEIJING (Sputnik) — The three victims, one of whom was the employee of a mining company from China's Yunnan province, were in a vehicle when the bomb detonated early Sunday morning in Laos's central Xaysomboun province, China's state news agency Xinxua reported, citing the Chinese embassy in Laos.
The Chinese man who survived was taken to a hospital for treatment. The Chinese embassy's consular staff visited, later demanding that the Laotian authorities launch a prompt investigation into the attack, according to the agency.
No other details about the incidents were immediately available.
In recent months, criminal gangs operating in isolated parts of Laos, including the mountainous Xaysomboun region, have repeatedly opened fire on vehicles passing through the region, including public buses, commercial vehicles and trucks.
The most recent attack occurred in mid-January, when unidentified gunmen shot up a passenger bus. The attack left about a dozen passengers in the vehicle injured but no deaths were reported.
