TROMSO (Norway) (Sputnik) – Oslo and Moscow are maintaining a constructive dialogue to address the issue of refugees who entered Norway through its checkpoint at Storskog near the Russian border, Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende said Monday.
"I want to emphasize that we have a good dialogue with Russia since the fall of 2015, when a refugee problem emerged. We have found a mutual understanding, although fragile, but understanding," Brende said at the international conference in Tromso.
He added that Norway is now observing a "dramatic decline" in the number of refugees arriving across the Russian border.
According to Norway’s immigration authorities, the northernmost migrant route has been used by an estimated 5,500 people fleeing conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and North Africa as Europe continues to grapple with the greatest refugee crisis in decades.
