WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Iraq's Kurdistan Region will receive US technical specialists and advisers who will assist in coping with the current financial crisis, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced in a release following the meeting between KRG's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and US Ambassador to Iraq Stewart Jones.

"The US delegation expressed its support for the steps taken by KRG to address the situation, and mentioned that the information provided would be taken back to Washington, which will send technical experts and advisers to the Kurdistan Region to help overcome the [financial] crisis," the release said on Monday.

The release explained that during the meeting Prime Minister Barzani and Ambassador Jones discussed the current financial crisis in Kurdistan and how to deal with it.

"Ambassador Jones praised the role of the Peshmerga Forces in the fight against ISIS [Daesh], and the efforts by the KRG to accommodate and provide assistance to scores of refugees and IDPs [Internally Displaced Persons], who fled ISIS terrorist threat and took refuge in the Kurdistan Region," the release added.

In recent months, Barzani stated his desire to see an independent Kurdistan in the future when security situation makes such a transition feasible.

The Kurdish Peshmerga is largely considered the most effective ground force and has retaken significant territory in northern Iraq that was once seized by the Islamic State terrorists, also known as Daesh.

The Kurdish ethnic group inhabits parts of northern Syria and Iraq, southeast Turkey as well as western Iran, where the group, that mostly practices Islam and other religions, forms a majority.
