MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Current figures for influenza cases in Russia do not exceed the usual seasonal infection-rate norms for the flu virus, Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova said Wednesday.
"In general, the situation is under control, it remains within limits of usual seasonal situation, and we hope it will continue to do so," the minister said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Skvortsova, the population is generally prepared for a possible epidemic, with over 45 million people already vaccinated against influenza.
An outbreak of swine flu, subtype H1N1 of the influenza A virus, is spreading across many regions of Russia.
