MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov – On Monday, Europol stated that Europe was facing its most significant terrorist threat in over 10 years in a speech to announce the opening of the new European Counter Terrorism Centre in the Hague.
"Germany also is the focus of Islamist terrorists… The current propaganda, as well as prevented attacks in recent years, makes this clear. However, we currently have no information about preparations for [terrorist] actions," the spokesperson said.
Also on Monday, the EU law enforcement agency published a report highlighting the Daesh jihadist group’s ability to "strike at will, at any time, and at almost any chosen target."
In October 2015, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said Berlin was aware of the potential for terrorists to be hiding among asylum seekers streaming into Germany amid the ongoing refugee crisis. He warned that Germany was "at the center of international terrorism," adding that domestic security services worked hard to thwart terror plots.
Daesh is designated a terrorist group and outlawed in many countries, including Russia. The group has captured vast territories in Iraq and Syria, where it proclaimed a caliphate.
